Why am i here?
Possibly the The biggest question in the universe. We all have our official version of who we are, such as this excerpt of my life below. I promise to keep it brief, as one thing I find boring about the New Gen Fit Pro, (new hashtag #newgenfitpro) is the shallow self obsession & constant pursuit of celebrity status a.k.a vast quantity of selfies & video's in order to attract a large following on the socials ;-).
I am Amanda Robertson, (nee Murray). Born in Africa in 1966. I'm a mother of 4 - with ages ranging from 31, with the youngest daughter, 14 going on 40.
Our family & extended family, lost all our worldly possessions, business and home, at gunpoint (more than once) due to the political violence & farm invasions in Zimbabwe. I found myself living in a tent in the middle of the African bush for 7 months with a young baby on my back. No running water, electricity or anything else, which is taken for granted in the first world.
We eventually ended up in the UK in 2010 with literally just a few battered suitcases to our name.
I spent a good part of my life in the fitness sphere, either as an athlete, fitness instructor, or just studying all related subjects & certifications. I'm a self confessed, obsessive, compulsive learner/full time student of my profession. Sounds bloody boring and sad, but I do occasionally try and have fun like normal people.
So why am I here? That's a really loaded question, but a quick psycho analysis - I adore animals and wish I could win the Euromillions or find out that I'm Bill Gates illegitimate mother! I could then dedicate my life to saving this planet we call home, as well as the amazing diversity of life who also have every right to inhabit it. I would also then have the time to literally become the nemesis of every weasel politician who has a duty of care to it's people and the environment (but that's another story) In an alternative universe, I would have been president/prime minister, fixing all that is wrong with this world. I would actually be a really awesome proactive God! ;-)
Unfortunately in the real world, only those who are in it for themselves make it in politics, so that counts me out. A bit like the fitness profession? However, I still dream and live in hope that if I can't save the planet all on my own, I can still save good people from being conned by the industry.
I generally attempt to surround myself with the very best minds & team of fellow professionals, to keep me humble, grounded, and constantly learning. This in turn helps me provide the VERY best experience for my clients.
I don't try to reinvent the wheel and pretend that I am Gods gift to all things nutrition & fitness. I am all about my clients, so forgive me when I don't compete in the "Selfie Olympics". I'm too busy ensuring I have the tools and knowledge to support my clients on their own individual & personal journey, even if that means, doing so at the expense of my own ego.
I care deeply about the integrity of my profession. I will rant, entertain (I hope), occasionally have a light hearted shot at the expense of those who dare to cross the line into my profession with their dodgy charlatan products and snake-skin oil. But I will try, at all times to show respect to my peers, even the young clueless ones, who still have so much to learn (even if they have 50 trillion followers on the socials).
So, thats my first blog post of 2018 out the way.
